I really enjoy your substack. Exploring NY through your blog is to have a fresh pair of eyes on all the stuff you tend to take for granted as a native New Yorker. Clinton Hill/Fort Green was pretty amazing in the '70s and '80s. Block parties were a thing! Clermont Ave between Lafayette and Dekalb was home. School at the Masonic Temple and PS 20. Went to a play group in the church beside the yellow house aka the Joseph Steele House. Summer programs at Pratt and Emanuel Baptist Church. SO many good memories.
Interestingly, the first time I visited the Netherlands, it took me a few days, but then I realized why Amsterdam felt so familiar though I'd never been there before. Since the Dutch built a lot of New York there is a ton of overlapping architectural style that in some ways made it feel so much like Brooklyn. Or Breukelen as they say. Keep writing and I'll keep reading :-) Thanks!
Thanks for the shout out! I love Clinton Hill so I’m glad I put out something that gets the seal of approval from a former resident!
I live on Vanderbilt between Lafayette and Dekalb! Block parties still happening, though I imagine they were more epic back then. Thanks
again!
