So many good nuggets of insight into the puzzle people. My sister, daughter, and other lady friends are puzzle people. There are unspoken rules (do not allow others to play with their puzzle without their expressed permission) and tools (start with the edge pieces) amongst these puzzle people - they are fascinating to me. I am not one of them. Thank you for this. I will make sure to share with them and gift them your mom's puzzle frame tray for the holidays.
So evocative, funny and thoughtful. As I read, I felt the 'cool, smooth but textured surface', giggled at the sorting technique, and was moved and inspired by your pursuit of creative space and time. Thank you!
Love this Zakia! I used to be very into puzzles a number of years ago. I did use a card table (I can play spades). Would somehow glue the back and mount on cardboard. Not sure how I managed to do it. I had a nice collection at one time. Got rid of it many years ago in a cleaning frenzy. Thanks for sharing this with me!
I love that you came up with your own creative approach to assembling the puzzle. Yet your helpful instructions are so methodical, this piece of writing reveals your many talents.
You know I love me some puzzles. I too bought myself a table and there’s always one out. I loved reading about your mom’s DIY tip. I’ve always found doing puzzles so therapeutic and I agree there’s nothing like running your fingers over a finished puzzle, the feeling is just so magnifique. Thanks for the suggestions of other brands too! One of my favorites is Galison.
Thank you for sharing Zakia. I love your writing, your descriptions, your analogies…….#5 gave me pause…..the desire to make a piece fit…..no matter how hard you want it to fit……the ever present notion and reality as we navigate life……And of course all your reminders and suggestions……my assortment of puzzles await!
That’s it — I’m starting a puzzle asap. Thanks for the puzzle tray hack! Also, really feeling #3. I need that reminder when it comes to creative pursuits.

I love this, Z!
Now I understand my ex's puzzles much better!
